Finally the all new Dodge viper is back after it was discontinued two years ago. The new viper will be sold under the brand SRT (Street Racing Technology – a brand of Chrysler division). Dodge has designed the viper supercar by keeping family traits like a very long bonnet, front wings inflated with “gills” and side exhaust pipes. Frame is mostly made of high strength steel and aluminum. The drag coefficient of new viper is very low at 0.364 against 0.45 for its predecessor which is impressive. Dodge viper now weighs at 1521 kg which is also 45 kg (100 pounds) less than previous model.
Under the hood lies all aluminum 8.4 liter V10 engine with new forged pistons and a different intake manifold. As a result it now produces 640 hp and 600 lb-ft of torque. The power is sent to the rear wheels via a Tremec TR6060 six-speed manual transmission with a 3.07 final drive ratio. Another most significant change is that stiffness of chassis is increased by almost 50%. It also comes equipped with safety systems like electronic multistage stability control, traction control and a new 4-channel anti-lock brake system (ABS).
Handling is one of major attributes in a supercar and the new viper is equipped with an improved suspension system, which features aluminum “X” brace under the hood, an aluminum impact beam at the front, and a modified link at the rear. Also available are new Shock absorbers with two settings for street and track. As standard it is equipped with Pirelli P zero tires. All wheels are fitted with 355mm x 32mm disc along with forged brake calipers to stop this powerful machine.
Headlights are all new with dual function, bi-xenon projector headlamps and are fitted with LED daytime running lights. Back lights are also equipped with LEDs with integrated stop and turn illumination. The interiors are fresh with racing seats made from Kevlar and fiberglass by Sabelt, leather upholstery, 7 inch fully customizable instrument cluster display, Uconnect Access connectivity system, 8.4-inch touch screen and a Harman Kardon surround-sound system with 18 speakers.
The all new 2013 dodge viper is no doubt the most awaited car of the year which had been teased several times before its launch at New York Auto show. According to sources top speed is rated at 206 mph(329 kph) which is awesome.
Production of new viper will start at the end of this year and will be produced at Detroit Corner Avenue. It will be available in two models SRT Viper and SRT viper GTS.
