McLaren has slightly updated its supercar MP4-12C with several improvements. It has 25 more horsepower and a new automatic change management. There are also variations in equipment. From June 2012 it will be available as 2013 model with some mechanical modifications, small improvements in some elements of the interior and choice of options. Owners of previous model can obtain the mechanical upgrades for free from October 2012.

The exterior appearance is reminiscent of McLaren F1. McLaren seats are placed closely together for the driver to have better control of the car. Central console is narrow. It had commands that are used to select degree of stability control intervention, the response of the engine and automatic transmission. Climate control system controls are in each door handles. It now carries base price of U.S. $239,400. This price may increase if you include many customization options available, including up to 17 different trims for the interior, 18 shades of paint, polished calipers, sporty exhaust system, ceramic brakes or various types of alloy wheels.

The MP4-12C has a 3.8 liter V8 gasoline supercharged by two turbochargers. Engine is placed in the rear of the body, just behind the passenger compartment. It now develops 625 hp at 7500 rpm, the 2011 model had 600 hp at 7000 rpm. Maximum torque is 600 Nm between 3000 and 7000 rpm. Mclaren offers two different sets of tires depending on the type of use. Best results are acheived through Pirelli P zero corsa tires. The 2013 Mclaren MP4-12C now reaches 0-60 mph in 3.0 s and 0-186 mph in 27 s. top speed is rated at 207 mph. Suspension can be configured in three different available programs – Normal, Sport and Track.

The gearbox is seven-speed automatic double clutch. One can only change gears from the steering wheel paddles. If you use the function “Pre-Cog” gear changes can be very fast. If there is a small pressure experienced on the cam, system interprets it soon and will require a gear change. When pressed second time and with a greater force, that is when the gear is engaged. As usual in this type of car, there is a launch control function to exit from a standing start with maximum acceleration. In 2013 McLaren MP4-12C gear management is different. It has a less throttle response time and make changes more smoothly. There is also a new system called “Intake Sound Generator” (ISG) which control the noise from the engine intake and gives the driver ability to vary its volume and tone in the cockpit through the menu in the dashboard.

The automotive division built the McLaren F1 McLaren between 1993 and 1998, the first road car with carbon fiber structure. It also produced the carbon fiber structure of the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren but with a slower and more expensive procedure than has been used in the MP4-12C. McLaren Automotive is committed to innovating through technology and design, and presenting customers with an exciting range of opportunities to specify their ultimate 12C. Currently, McLaren has 35 distributors in 19 cities worldwide.
