The Bavarian automaker introduced the first ever production version of the hybrid based on 335i. The new BMW ActiveHybrid 3 has joined in hybrid line-up of already released BMW ActiveHybrid 5.
Under the hood is a standard new 3.0-liter gasoline turbo power 306 hp (400 Nm), alongwith an electric motor integrated in the crankcase of an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The total output hybrid power plant is 340 hp and 450 Nm of torque, which allows the BMW 3-Series F30 ActiveHybrid to accelerate 0-60 mph in 5.2 sec, a 0.3 seconds quicker than the petrol version 335i. Top speed is limited at 250 km/h( 155 mph)
For the electric power supply a set of lithium-ion batteries acquires 90 liters of luggage volume. BMW claims the Hybrid 3 can travel up to 2.5 miles(4 km) on electricity alone at speeds of up to 47 mph (75 km/h). And although the car has turned out as much as 135 kg heavier than the normal petrol version, the average consumption of a hybrid combined cycle is 5.9 liters per hundred km versus 7.9 liters per 100 km for standard 335i i.e the hybrid version can deliver 40 mpg on highway.
2013 BMW 3-ActiveHybrid can be outwardly distinguished by wheel disks Stremline, which are available only for this model, as well as ActiveHybrid tag and chrome exhaust nozzles.
European sales of the new BMW 3 ActiveHybrid will begin towards the end of 2012.
